A truly magnificent clock in a walnut-veneered case with solid brass finials.

This clock stands an imposing 8' 3" high including the finials. The eight-day movement has five pillars, all latched, and the dial (which is also latched to the movement) has herringbone / wheatear engraving all around its edge, interrupted on the lower edge by the signature IOHN KNIBB OXON in capitals.

John Knibb, brother of the more famous Joseph, was born in 1650 and spent his working life in Oxford where he was twice Mayor. He worked closely with Joseph who was in London and produced many fine clocks. Of his apprentices, probably the most famous was Sam Aldworth.
