A mahogany-cased clock of good dark colour and of provincial make; Ecclefechan is in the south of Scotland.

Joseph Gibson was born in 1732 and succeeded his father Robert in the clockmaking business.

It is in a very heavy and well-built case, the hood with arched top, detached pillars with brass caps to the tops and bottoms. The hood sides have shaped glazed apertures which are typically Scottish.

There is a brass and silvered dial with attractively-engraved and silvered centre; the clock has an eight-day movement striking hours on a bell.
